College Station, Texas - Christina Houghtelling and Sarah Pavan combined for 25 kills and six blocks, as No. 1 Nebraska remained perfect with a 30-19, 30-24, 30-21victory over Texas A&M Wednesday evening at the G. Rollie White Coliseum Wednesday evening.

Houghtelling led a balanced attack with 12 kills on .409 hitting and three blocks, while Pavan added 12 kills on .571 hitting, as Nebraska (24-0, 15-0 Big 12) became the first team to sweep Texas A&M in College Station this season.

In all, five Huskers had at least seven kills, as Nebraska hit .381, the 12th time that Nebraska has hit over .350 this season. Jennifer Saleamua had nine kills and eight digs while Jordan Larson added eight kills and 10 digs. NU’s middle blockers also shined as Tracy Stalls had seven kills on .429 hitting and five blocks, while Melissa Elmer added a team-high seven blocks, as NU out-blocked the Aggies, 13.5-2.0.

The Huskers came out firing in game one, putting down their first nine swings in posting a 30-19 victory. The Huskers hit .588, as a team, as Pavan had six kills on eight swings, while Salueamua and Jordan Larson had five and four kills, respectively. The Huskers led wire-to-wire, jumping out to a 4-1 lead and never looking back. Leading 8-5, Houghtelling started a 7-3 Husker run with consecutive kills, as Nebraska pushed the margin to 15-8. The Aggies pulled within 21-14, but a Larson kill, an Aggie attack error and a block by Pavan and Elmer on Laura Jones gave the Huskers a 10-point lead. Texas A&M eventually closed to 26-18 but could not get closer, as the Huskers closed out game one with a 4-1 spurt to take game one.

The Huskers continued to show a balanced attack as Nebraska turned in a 30-24 victory. NU had four players record at lease three kills, while Tracy Stalls had three kills in three swings and added three of Nebraska’s 5.5 blocks. Nebraska got off to a quick start, using an 8-2 run to build a 15-7 advantage after a Houghtelling kill. The Huskers led 18-11 before the Aggies stormed back, scoring four unanswered points to pull within 18-15 on a Kendra Felder kill and forced a Husker timeout. Texas A&M continued to chip away at the deficit, pulling within 21-19 on a Christi Hahn kill, but the Huskers would rally, as a Houghtelling kill and a block by Larson and Elmer highlighted a 3-0 run that made it 24-19. The Aggies would pull to within 28-24, but kills by Pavan and Stalls closed out game two and sent NU to the locker room with a 2-0 lead.

In the finale, the Huskers raced off to an early 8-3 lead and led 15-11 before Texas A&M scored three straight points to pull within 15-14 after a Husker hitting error. Kills by Pavan and Saleaumua gave the Huskers some breathing room with a 17-14 lead, but the Aggies hung around, pulling to within 20-18 after a four hits call on NU. The Huskers then put the game out of reach, using a 6-1 run to build a seven point lead and became the first team to sweep Texas A&M in College Station this season.

Laura Jones finished with a match-high 18 kills for Texas A&M (11-12, 4-10 Big 12), while no other Aggie had at least five kills, as NU won for the 13th straight time over Texas A&M and the 38th straight against any Big 12 team.

The Huskers return to action on Sunday, Nov. 13, when they host the No. 13 Missouri Tigers. First serve for the nationally televised CSTV match is set for 5 p.m.
