Huskers Pick Up Preparations with Intrasquad Challenge

The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska men’s gymnastics team continues preparations for the 2006 season with its annual intrasquad meet on Friday, Dec. 9.  Assistant coach Jim Hartung, one of the top 10 judges in the world, will gauge the Huskers’ routines for the coming season and provide feedback on where the gymnasts can improve before engaging in NCAA competition.

The meet will pit all available members of the 2006 squad against each other and give them the first opportunity to assess new skill values following the NCAA rules changes that occurred during the offseason.  One NU team member, All-American Stephen T?trault, will not compete in the event as he is currently in Canada competing at the Elite Canadian Nationals with the hopes of being selected as a national team member.

T?trault is one of two All-Americans returning to the NU roster this season.  The other is junior Paul Chumreonlert who finished fifth on the pommel horse at the NCAA Championships in 2005.  Nebraska’s All-Americans combine with a solid core of five seniors to help the Huskers attempt to gain their first NCAA team finals berth in five years.
