About Coach Morales

A new era of Nebraska swimming and diving began on July 30, 2001, when three-time Olympic gold medalist Pablo Morales was named head coach of the women's program.

In his first few seasons at the helm, Morales has brought a wealth of coaching and swimming experience to the program and a spirited drive to return Husker Swimming to national prominence.

Morales came to Nebraska following a three-year stint as head coach at San JoseStateUniversity where he rebuilt the program and took the Spartans to the NCAA Championships after a 14-year absence.  He was named 2000 Western Athletic Conference Coach of the Year for his coaching efforts during the 1999-2000 season.

As a swimmer, Morales won five Olympic medals.  He is also a former world and U.S. record holder, U.S. Olympic Committee Sportsman of the Year (1992) and Sullivan Award finalist.  A 1987 graduate of StanfordUniversity, he was arguably the greatest male swimmer in collegiate history, winning an NCAA-record 11 individual titles, while helping lead the Cardinals to three consecutive NCAA team titles.

Following a very successful 2003-04 season with the Huskers, Morales was named Big 12 Women's Coach of the Year.

Husker swimmers benefit from his vast swimming and coaching experience with proper stroke mechanics, elite-level training and peak performance.  In addition, Coach Morales brings a demanding, yet positive, approach to coaching, instilling a sense in his athletes that more is always possible.
