NU Travels to <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Tampa, Fla. for Dick Wittcoff/South Florida Invitational<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Nebraska will travel to Tampa, Fla., as the University of South Florida plays host to the team at the par-71, 6,830-yard University of South Florida Golf Course. Action in the tournament begins with 36 holes on Friday, followed by the second round of 18 holes on Saturday and the third and final round on Sunday.
Joining the Roadrunners and the Huskers in the 18-team field
will beArkansas State, Austin Peay, Bowling Green, ColumbusState, DePaul, Florida Atlantic, Florida Southern, Furman, JacksonvilleState, Marquette, Middle Tennessee, MissouriState, New Orleans, Oral Roberts, South Florida, St. John’s, and Troy.
South Florida's Oscar Fraustro was the individual champion at the 2005 South Florida Invitational with a score of 214, while JacksonvilleState won the tournament with a final team score of 874.
Huskers Finish in Fourth Place at UTSA Intercollegiate
The Nebraska men’s golf team held the fourth place spot after finishing in the same place through 36 holes to finish competition at the UTSA Intercollegiate at the par-71, 6,691-yard Oak Hills Country Club in San Antonio, Texas.
Junior Drew Reynolds anchored the team with a final score of 211 (73-69-69) and finished third in the tournament. Reynolds’ final two rounds of 69 matched his season best, which he shot in the fall at the Xavier Invitational on Oct. 11.
The third-year Husker continues his drastic improvement throughout the season, as his average score of 70.33 throughout the UTSA Intercollegiate was more than three strokes below his fall average of 73.61.
Additionally, Reynolds finished five-under par on par-five scoring, placing second in the tournament, and one-under par on par-four scoring, which was third in the tournament. Reynolds also finished with 10 birdies and one eagle.
Junior Brady Schnell tied for seventh in the tournament, finishing with a final score of 214 (75-69-70). Schnell’s tournament average of 71.33 was also below his fall average of 72.94, continuing the Huskers’ slope of improvement throughout the season. Schnell also finished even on par-three scoring, placing him fourth in the tournament as well as seventh in the tournament in par-four scoring, as he was just two over par.
Senior Judd Cornell came in third for the Huskers as his final score of 223 (73-75-75) was enough to place him in a tie for 24th, while junior Ryan Lenahan tied for 50th with a final score of 229 (71-80-78). Cornell also finished three-under par on par-five scoring.
Junior Mark Pillen rounded out the Husker lineup as he finished 86th with a final score of 244 (87-81-76), marking an 11-stroke improvement throughout the tournament.
As a team, the Huskers finished third in the tournament with 39 birdies and fifth in the tournament in par-five scoring at five-under par.
BaylorUniversity held on to its first-day lead to win the tournament with a final team score of 855 (290-283-282). Baylor’s Ryan Baca also captured the individual title with an 11-under par 199 (64-67-68).
Louisiana-Monroe took second in the tournament with a team score of 868 (296-284-288), while LamarUniversity took the third spot with a score of 870 (291-285-294). IllinoisState finished behind Nebraska with a final score of 882 (297-291-294) to round out the top five in the tournament.
Illinois State’s Matt Miller finished with a score of 210 for second in the tournament, while Lamar’s Dawie VanDerWalt (72-70-70) and Dusty Smith (69-70-73) finished behind Reynolds in a tie for fourth with a final score o f 212 to round out the top five individuals.
