Schnell Leads Huskers in Ron Moore Invitational

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Goodyear, Ariz.-Junior Brady Schnell shot a first-round school-record 64 to lead the Huskers to a second-place finish through the first day of competition in the Ron Moore Invitational at the par-72, 7,015 yard Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

 

The Huskers posted a team score of 556 (279-277) through 36 holes, sitting just two strokes out of first place.

 

Schnell opened the day with a career-best 64, and shot a second-round 70 to record a 134 on the day, placing him in fourth place.

 

Junior Drew Reynolds shot a second-round 68 to pull into second place in the Husker lineup with a score of 138 (70-68), leaving him in tie for 11th through two rounds.

 

Junior Ty Capps improved his first-round 74 by seven strokes, shooting a 67 for a first-day total of 141, placing him in a tie for 23rd.

 

Senior Judd Cornell shot a 143 (71-72) on the day, while junior Ryan Lenahan rounded out the Husker lineup with a 154 (75-79).

 

Kansas stands in first place with a 554 (279-275), while Louisville stands in third with a total score of 559 (281-278). Denver (285-275), New Mexico (277-283), Utah (278-282) and Colorado State (281-279) finished in a four-way tie for fourth place at 560.

 

Freshman Trent Price shot as an individual, opening the day with a first-round 69 and following it up with a second-round 77 to place him in a tie for 54th place with a first-day total of 146.

 

The Huskers follow Monday’s action with the third and final round of 18 holes on Tuesday, beginning at 9 a.m. at the Palm Valley Golf Course in Goodyear, Ariz.
