Scottsdale, Ariz. - The University of Nebraska men’s golf team compiled a final score of 859 (287-286-286) to finish in 12th place in the field of 21 and just two strokes out a spot in the top ten in the Wyoming Cowboy Classic on Monday at the par-70, 7,133-yard Talking Stick Golf Club in Scottsdale, Ariz.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Junior transfer Ty Capps led the Husker squad for the second tournament in a row as he also led at the Branson Creek Invitational on April 3-4. Capps finished with a final score of 211 (72-67-72) to finish just one over par and in a tie for 11th in the competitive field of 109 entrants. Capps’ second-round score of 67 matches his season and collegiate-low round that he shot this year at the Ron Moore Invitational on March 20-21.
Senior Judd Cornell was next for the Huskers with a final score of 213 (71-74-68), finishing his third and final round with a strong two-under par to finish in a tie for 25th. Cornell’s final round of 68 matches his season-low round, which he shot in the fall at the Xavier Invitational on Oct. 10-11.
Junior Brady Schnell finished strong in the third round with an even-par 70 to finish third for the Huskers with a final score of 215 (73-72-70), placing him in a tie for 38th.
Junior Drew Reynolds was the final scoring member for the Huskers with a 221 (71-73-77) as he finished in a tie for 70th, while freshman Trent Price rounded out the line-up with a 231 (76-79-76) and a 101st-place finish.
The Huskers will enjoy a two-week break before the Big 12 Conference Championships on April 24-25 in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>TulsaOkla. In the most recent Big 12 release on March 26, the Huskers ranked sixth in the conference and No. 59 in the national rankings.
Baylor heads the Big 12 rankings and owns a national ranking of No. 3, while OklahomaState is close behind for second in the conference with a national ranking of No. 17.
Missouri and Texas Tech are neck-and-neck for the No. 3 and 4 conference spot and are tied for No. 26 in the nation, while TexasA&M just edged out Nebraska for the No. 5 conference spot and a No. 36 national ranking.
