Red/White Scrimmage Set for Saturday Night

Lincoln ? Husker volleyball fans will have their first opportunity to see the nation’s top-ranked team on Saturday, Aug. 26, as Nebraska hosts its annual Red/White Scrimmage and Alumni Match at the NU Coliseum.

Tickets are still available for Saturday’s match, with all seats $8 for adults and $6 for youth and seniors. In addition, children ages 6-and-under will be admitted free to Saturday’s match. University of Nebraska students will also be admitted free with a valid student ID.

Fans can purchase tickets at Huskers.com or by calling the Nebraska Ticket Office at (800) 8-BIGRED. All seats for Saturday’s match will be general admission and available on a first-come, first-serve basis.

NU Coliseum gates will open at 4:30 p.m. for the evening’s activities. The festivities begin at 5:30 p.m., as nearly 30 former Husker players will be on hand on Saturday. Some of the players scheduled to play in Saturday’s Alumni match include former All-Americans Jennifer Saleaumua and Lisa Reitsma. The teams will play best-of-three games to 25.

At 7 p.m., the Huskers will take the NU Coliseum court for the Red/White Match, as Husker fans will have their first opportunity to see the 2006 Huskers. NU returns five of its top eight players from its 2005 NCAA runner-up squad, including two-time All-American Sarah Pavan and 2005 Big 12 Freshman of the Year Jordan Larson. Other returning players who shared time in NU’s 6-2 offense last year include setter Maggie Griffin, libero Dani Busboom and middle blocker Tracy Stalls.

The Huskers open the regular season one week from tonight, on Aug. 29, as Nebraska hosts No. 20 San Diego at a sold-out NU Coliseum. The season opener will be the Huskers’ 72nd consecutive sellout. All 17 of Nebraska’s regular-season home matches are sold out for the 2006 season.
