Holloway Named Big 12 Player of the Week

IRVING, Texas -- University of Nebraska setter Rachel Holloway (Franklin, Tenn.) was honored by the Big 12 on Monday with her selection as the conference’s volleyball player of the week.

It is the first weekly honor for Holloway, and the second straight week a Husker has received the award, as Jordan Larson was chosen last week. Holloway is also the first NU setter to receive the Big 12’s weekly award since Greichaly Cepero in 2002.

Holloway averaged 16.00 assists, 2.00 digs, 1.17 kills and 0.83 blocks in victories over No. 15 Missouri and Colorado, as Nebraska improved to 17-0 overall and 9-0 in the Big 12 heading into Wednesday’s match against No. 10 Texas.

At Missouri last Wednesday, Holloway tallied 49 assists while directing the Huskers to a .339 hitting percentage in a three-game sweep of the Tigers. Four Huskers had at least nine kills while Holloway also had eight digs and a career-high three blocks in handing Missouri its first home loss of the season.

Against Colorado, Holloway put together another solid match with 47 assists, as three Huskers finished in double figures in kills. She also had two aces, two blocks and four digs in the sweep of the Buffaloes.

Overall, Holloway has guided the NU offense to a No. 1 ranking in both kills and assists per game in addition to the Big 12's best hitting percentage. Holloway joins Larson and Sarah Pavan as NU’s honorees for Big 12 weekly honors this season.
