<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>LINCOLN?The Nebraska track and field team will hold its annual pre-season intrasquad meet Friday, Dec. 8, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center Indoor Track.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Action both on the track and in the field will begin at 6 p.m. Running events to be contested include (in order) the 600-yard run, 400- and 200-meter dashes, 60-meter hurdles, 60-meter dash and the 4x400-meter relay. The weight throw, pole vault, long jump and high jump will begin the field events at 6 p.m., while the shot put and triple jump are scheduled to follow at 6:45 p.m.
For the second straight year during the intrasquad competition, the Husker men will be pitted against the NU women’s squad in a team scoring matchup. The scoring system will be a version of the IAAF Tables, which assign points to individual performances. The tables are similar to the scoring tables used to calculate scores for combined events competitions such as the heptathlon or decathlon. The system will allow a format for the men’s and women’s squads to compare individual performances.
The Nebraska men edged the Husker women by a 66-58 margin in last year’s “Battle of the Sexes.” The highly competitive meet featured five intrasquad records: former Huskers Priscilla Lopes (8.1) and Courtney Jones (7.7) in the women’s and men’s 60-meter hurdles; Dusty Jonas (7-0 ?) in the men’s high jump; and former Huskers Egle Uljas (1:19:3) and Elizabeth Lange (2:12.6) in the 600- and 800-meter run events. Nebraska officially opens its season Jan. 12-13 with the Holiday Inn Invitational at the Devaney Center Indoor Track. Along with the Huskers, several in-state schools are expected to participate in the meet.
