Four All-Americans Among Husker Spring Graduates

Lincoln?Twelve current and former members of the Husker track and field program are expected to be among 53 student-athletes who will receive diplomas from the University of Nebraska - Lincoln Saturday during commencement exercises at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. Among NU's track and field senior class, which is the largest for each of Nebraska's 23 sports programs, are four NCAA All-Americans and three former Big 12 champions.

The group is led by 2005-06 Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year Aaron Plas, a three-time NCAA All-American in the high jump who also earned the 2005 Big 12 outdoor championship. Aaron Nasers and Oliver Williams Jr. added All-America careers on the track before graduating from <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska, while Kayte Tranel added All-America honors for Coach Jay Dirksen’s cross country team.

In addition to Plas, two other Huskers who earned Big 12 titles in 2006 also are expected to earn diplomas Saturday: Mark Harrison, the 2006 Big 12 outdoor champ in the men's 400-meter hurdles, and Courtney Jones, the 2006 men's 110-meter hurdles champion.

Each of NU's six major award-winners completed their eligibility following the 2006 season.

Four Huskers currently concluding their careers this outdoor season also will graduate Saturday: Kim Pancoast, Aaron Ross, Jeni Steiner and Casie Witte. Each athlete will compete at home for the final time next weekend during the Big 12 Outdoor Championships.
