Volleyball Continues Academic Success

Lincoln ? Ten members of the 2006 NCAA Champion Husker volleyball team were honored this week, as they were selected to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll. The group was among the 255 University of Nebraska student-athletes who had at least a 3.0 GPA during the spring semester.

The Huskers, who went 33-1 en route to the school’s third NCAA title last season, were paced by a quartet of student-athletes who posted 4.0 GPA during the spring semester. Honda Award winner Sarah Pavan continued to add to her accomplishments, as she recorded a 4.0 GPA for the sixth straight semester. The reigning Academic All-American of the Year, Pavan enters her senior season with a perfect 4.0 cumulative GPA.

Joining Pavan with perfect GPAs during the spring are outside hitter Christina Houghtelling and middle blockers Amanda Gates and Kori Cooper. Houghtelling, the 2005 AVCA National Player of the Year, was a first-team Academic All-American in 2005 before missing last season after shoulder surgery. Gates continued to carry a perfect 4.0 GPA throughout her collegiate career, as she earned her fourth selection to the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll.
