Huskers Conclude USATF Outdoor Championships

Indianapolis ? Three Huskers wrapped up the 2007 USATF Outdoor Championships on Sunday, June 24, in Indianapolis, with senior Jeni Steiner competing in the women’s shot put, junior Dusty Jonas taking on the men’s high jump field and sophomore Brysun Stately squaring off in the women’s pole vault.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Steiner used a toss of 49-5 1/2 to finish 16th overall, while Stately did not score in the pole vault and Jonas failed to mark a height in the high jump.

The top three athletes to finish in each event and meet the appropriate qualifying standard advance as part of the U.S. Team to the 2007 IAAF World Championships in Osaka, Japan this August. Although no current Huskers will advance to that competition, former NU athlete Becky Briesch used a second-place finish in the women’s discus to qualify in that event.

Additionally, NU freshman Scott Wims will represent the Huskers at the 2007 Pan American Games in <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Sao Paolo, Brazil, after claiming the junior title in the men’s 200-meter dash and the runner-up spot in the junior men’s 100-meters. Wims will soon be back in action as the Pan Am Games take place July 6-8.
