Opening the season on Oct. 12 in its first-ever match-up against Big Ten opponent Illinois, the Huskers will compete in the friendly confines of the Devaney Natatorium in five of their first six regular-season meets. Only the Big 12 Relays in Ames, Iowa on Oct. 19 will require the Huskers to leave Lincoln during the first two months of the season.
From Nov. 15-18, four teams (Nebraska, Iowa State, Nebraska-Omaha and Northern Iowa) will converge on the Devaney Natatorium for the Nebraska Invitational, a four-day meet that will mark the longest swimming event in school history.
Following the Nebraska Invitational, the Huskers will compete in Austin from Nov. 29-Dec. 1 for the Texas Invitational, which is also the site of the 2008 Big 12 Championships (Feb. 27-March 1).
Before opening the conference dual meet schedule, the Huskers head south to sunny San Luis Potosi, Mexico in early January for their holiday training trip. Nebraska’s Big 12 slate includes two road trips to Kansas (Jan. 19) and Missouri (Feb. 9), as well as the final home meet of the season on Feb. 2, when the Huskers face Iowa State on Senior Day.
The 2008 NCAA Championships will take place in Columbus, Ohio from March 20-22.
Nebraska was 7-6 in dual meet action last season and finished fifth at the Big 12 Championships. The 2007-08 Huskers return 14 letterwinners and welcome a talented class of 12 freshmen from 10 different states.
