Husker Volleyball Previews Holiday Inn Downtown Classic

Lincoln -- Nebraska Volleyball Coach John Cook met with the media on Tuesday to review last weekend's AVCA Showcase and preview this weekend's Holiday Inn Downtown Classic. Cook discusses the progress of outside hitter Christina Houghtelling and talks about the development of the Husker middle blockers.

The Huskers, ranked No. 1 in this week's CSTV/AVCA Coaches poll, will take on Creighton on Friday night at 7 p.m. in their home opener at the NU Coliseum. It will be the 91st consecutive sellout in the buildnig.

On Sunday, one of the most anticipated volleyball contests of the year takes place at Qwest Center Omaha, as the Huskers will take on No. 3 Penn State at 3 p.m. Tickets are available at Ticketmaster.com and at Ticketmaster outlets across Nebraska, as over 11,000 tickets have already been sold for that match. Sunday is a volleyball doubleheader at the Qwest Center, as Creighton will take on Cal Poly at 12:30 p.m.

The tournament wraps up on Monday afternoon, as the Huskers take on Cal Poly at 5 p.m. in a Labor Day matinee. Fans who don't have tickets to this weekend's action can listen to all three matches live across the state on the Husker Sports Network and on Huskers.com.
