The <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>University of Nebraska softball team eclipsed its goal by raising $2,126 for cancer research during the 2007 Light the Night Walk on Thursday, Sept. 13, at HolmesLake.
The Huskers eclipsed their goal of $2,000 while walking in honor of Dr. Barbara Hibner, NU’s former Associate Athletic Director and Senior Woman Adminstrator who passed away last spring after a valiant battle with cancer.
A valuable member of the Nebraska Athletic Department for 28 years, Hibner led the way for thousands of young women to compete in collegiate athletics. She played a key role with Nebraska softball, as she selected Rhonda Revelle to be head coach in 1993.
According to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society ? Nebraska Chapter, all proceeds from this year's Light the Night Walk will go to further the mission of curing leukemia, lymphoma, Hodgkin's lymphoma and myeloma and improving the quality of life for patients and their families. This mission is carried out through extensive research for treatments, cures, government advocacy, patient assistance programs, community outreach, and education programs.
