The Nebraska swimming and diving team welcomed back 11 former Huskers for the 2007 Alumni Meet Saturday morning in Lincoln, defeating the alums for the second-straight year, 101.5-95.5.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Four different Huskers won races, capped with a 25-yard freestyle sweep by senior Lynn Siemert (12.27), junior Jenny Toler (12.70) and sophomore Mariah Hutchinson (12.77) in the second to last event to give Nebraska the narrow win.
Among the Husker alums were eight coached by current leader Pablo Morales and 2000-01 letterwinner Elizabeth Rieke. Former All-American Mike Irvin and Barrett Brandon returned from the men’s squad.
Irvin won a meet-high five events, taking first in the 100-yard freestyle (52.90), 100-yard backstroke (59.72), 100-yard individual medley (58.21), 100-yard butterfly (59.51) and 100-yard breaststroke (1:07.27).
Before a runner-up finish in the 25-yard freestyle, Toler won the 50-yard freestyle (25.63), while sophomores Hailey Dean (50-yard breaststroke; 32.40) and Kelsey Ida (50-yard backstroke (29.27) won the remaining two events for the Huskers.
Nebraska will use next week to prepare for the 2007 Big 12 Relays, which take place Friday, Oct. 19 in Ames, Iowa. On Saturday, Oct. 20, the Huskers return home to face the South Dakota State Jackrabbits at the Devaney Natatorium. The start time has not yet been determined due to the Nebraska-Texas A&M football game.
