Wassung Among NU Graduates

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>LincolnFormer Nebraska gymnast Jason Wassung is among the 45 Husker student-athletes who will participate in graduation ceremonies on Saturday, Dec. 22, at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.

Wassung, a four-year letterman for the Huskers, earns his degree in construction management.

Wassung joined Husker gymnastics in 2004 after a successful junior career at the Nebraska School of Gymnastics in Lincoln, Neb. under Nebraska Assistant Coach Chuck Chmelka.  A top all-arounder, Wassung finished his career with five all-around titles, including three in his senior season.  Wassung, a co-captain of the 2007, was also awarded the prestigious Jim Hartung Award at the 2007 Nebraska gymnastics banquet, an award that honors the top senior gymnast for Nebraska each season.

Nebraska’s winter graduating class of student-athletes is one of the largest in school history and is 30 percent larger than last December’s group of 31 graduates. The Huskers’ 45-member graduating class consists of student-athletes from 14 U.S. states and three foreign countries, including Germany, Latvia and South Africa. Nearly all of Nebraska’s varsity teams are represented in the group, while the Huskers graduate with nearly 20 different majors in their fields of study. Despite the diversity of the group, a total of 20 Nebraska natives make up nearly half of the class. Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the nation with an exhausted eligibility graduation rate of 94 percent.
