Five Huskers Earn Degrees

<?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Lincoln ? Five former Husker swimmers and divers were part of 45 University of Nebraska student-athletes who earned degrees Saturday, Dec. 22 during winter commencement ceremonies at the BobDevaneySportsCenter.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>

Representing five states, each swimmer or diver was at least a one-year letterwinner for the Huskers, including four-year letterwinners Emilee Crawford (2004-07), Kate Dulgar (2003-06), Bailey Ingles (2004-07).

Both Dulgar and Ingles earned degrees in elementary education, while Crawford, a current volunteer coach for the 2007-08 NU swimming and diving team, graduated with a communications major.

A pair of former Husker divers, Dani Millis and Kaci Ressler, earned degrees in marketing and political science.

As a whole, this quintet has helped head coach Pablo Morales’ teams’ place 75 percent of its members on the Big 12 Commissioner’s Honor Roll over the past five years. Crawford earned the accolade all eight semesters during her career, while Ingles had seven awards. Additionally, each of the five members gained first-team Academic All-Big 12 honors at least once.

“I congratulate all of these Nebraska student-athletes for the way they have balanced classwork, community involvement and competition,” Nebraska Associate Athletic Director for Academic Programs and Student Services Dennis Leblanc said. “These 45 graduates come from a diverse background from around the country and the world and have represented Nebraska at the highest level in academics and athletics.  The athletic department, the University and the state of Nebraska are proud of their accomplishments.”

Thirty-one University of Nebraska student-athletes graduated at the 2006 winter commencement, including a pair of swimmers and divers, (Mackenzie Clark and Abby Fitzpatrick) before seven earned degrees in May 2007 (Lauren Bailey, Katie Bowden, Amie Buoy, Becky Johnson, Casey Schnack, Diana Torres and Kate Wheeler).

Nebraska continues to feature one of the highest graduation rates in the nation with a Big 12-leading 94 percent exhausted eligibility graduation rate.
