Huskers Arrive in Arizona

The Nebraska softball team arrived in Arizona on Thursday afternoon in advance of the Huskers' participation in their season-opening tournament, the Kajikawa Classic, hosted by Arizona State University.

After a delayed arrival in Phoenix, Nebraska traveled immediately to Seton Catholic High School, the alma mater of junior Meghan Mullin, whose father Jerry coaches the school's softball team. At Seton Catholic, the Huskers were able to practice outside for the first time this season.

With a later-than-anticipated arrival at the field, NU had to cut its practice short due to darkness. The Huskers were still able to work out for more than an hour at the field, using a majority of the time to work on infield defense. Head Coach Rhonda Revelle noted that she was pleased with the practice, and especially the opportunity for the infielders to field ground balls on dirt for the first time since last fall.

Following practice, the team traveled to the Mullin family home for dinner. The dinner, prepared by the Mullin family, featured the entire team as well as family members of several different players. At the dinner, the entire group watched a psych-up tape, featuring fall highlights designed to gear the Huskers up for their season opener.

The group also teammed up to celebrate the birthday of Assistant Coach Jen Ogee, complete with a Valentine's Day cake and a rendition of "Happy Birthday to You."

Nebraska finally checked into its hotel around 9 p.m. on Thursday and the Huskers will have an early Friday morning as the team departs for the field at 8:15 a.m. in preparation for its season opener, beginning at 10:30 a.m., Mountain Time.
