With the release of the Academic All-Big 12 Track and Field Team, the Huskers have again shown they excel not only in athletic events but also in the classroom. Among its 38 sections, the track and field team had four student athletes earn a perfect 4.0 grade-point average. The perfect GPA students on the women’s team included Kim Shubert (biological sciences), Betsy Miller (biological sciences) and Joslyn Dalton (communication studies) while the men’s team added Bryce Somer (nutritional science and dietetics).

For the Husker women, it was the first honor for nine athletes and second honor for six athletes. Dalton and Miller each earned their third first-team honor while Shubert was recognized on the first team for the fourth time.

On the men’s side, 11 student-athletes made the list for the first time and another seven are repeat selections. Keith Lloyd (pre-industrial technology) and Thorin Meyer (theatre) were awarded with Academic All-Big 12 honors for the third time.

Athletes are nominated by each institution’s director of student-athlete support services and the media relations offices. Overall, the men’s track and field academic all-league squad consisted of 82 first-team members combined with 21 on the second team, while the women had 109 first- team recipients and 22 student-athletes on the second team.  First-team members consist of those who have maintained a 3.20 or better GPA, and the second team includes those who have a 3.00 to 3.19 GPA.

To qualify student-athletes must maintain a 3.00 GPA or higher either cumulative or the two previous semesters and must have participated in 60 percent of his/her team’s scheduled contests.
