Former Husker Priscilla Lopes-Schliep posted the top time in the semifinals of the women’s 100 meter hurdles on Friday at the Canadian Olympic Trials with a clocking of 13.23. A national champion during her collegiate running days at <?xml:namespace prefix="st1" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:smarttags"?>Nebraska, Lopes-Schliep leads the field into Saturday’s finals after she and Angela Whyte (13.31) were the only two competitors to run under 13.5 at the University of Windsor track. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Lopes-Schliep will vie for a spot on the Canadian Olympic Team that will travel to Beijing in August when she competes in the finals on Saturday afternoon at 4 p.m. Her attempt at another Olympic team selection will come just an hour after Husker newcomer Adam Wolkins competes in the javelin final at the Canadian Olympic Trials. Wolkin finished third in the preliminaries on Thursday night.
Also Saturday, former Huskers Dusty Jonas (high jump) and Melissa Meyerscough (hammer throw) will battle for a spot on the U.S. Olympic squad in their respective events at Hayward Field in Eugene, Ore. On Friday, Anne Shadle ended her run at the Olympic Trials with an 11th-place finish in the Heat 1 semifinals of the 1,500 meter run.
