Lincoln-The Nebraska women’s soccer team concludes its fall camp with an exhibition game against South Dakota on Thursday in Vermillion, S.D. The two programs, who have never faced each other, will square off on the USD Soccer Field at 10 a.m.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
The exhibition serves as the unofficial kickoff of Nebraska’s 15th season under Coach John Walker. The Huskers finished last season 5-10-4, but lost just one starter and welcome two-time Gatorade Player-of-the-Year Molly Thomas as a freshman this fall.
South Dakota went 7-10-3 and 4-7-1 in the North Central Conference in 2007, but starts several new eras in 2008. First-year head coach Marcia Oliveira will lead USD in its inaugural season in NCAA Division I this fall. One of the top teams in Division II, the Coyotes will look to carry that success over to the newly-created Great West Conference.
Nebraska begins regular-season action against Northwestern in Evanston, Ill., on Friday, Aug. 22. The Huskers start their season on the road for just the second time in their 15-year history. NU returns to Lincoln to start its home schedule against UC Riverside on Friday, Aug. 29. Huskers.com will have a complete season preview, including a position-by-position breakdown of the team, before the first regular-season game.
