Nebraska swimming and diving head coach Pablo Morales was a guest on
"Gameday" on ESPN Radio on Sunday, as he was invited to discuss Michael Phelps' incredible run of eight gold medals as well as Morales' own Olympic experiences.
"When Michael Phelps was growing up in Baltimore, he had a poster on his wall of Pablo Morales," host Freddy Coleman said. "He dreamed of being like him."
Morales won three medals, including a gold in the 4x100-meter medley relay, at the 1984 Olympics in Los Angeles. After failing to qualify for the 1988 Olympic games, Morales fought his way back into the 1992 Games in Barcelona, winning two gold medals and becoming the oldest swimmer to win an Olympic medal. Morales talks about what it was like to come back and participate in those 1992 Games after being out of swimming for a significant length of time.
