Lincoln ? Fans of the Nebraska track and field team and the Late Show with David Letterman will get a special treat as former Husker high jumper Dusty Jonas will appear on the CBS show when it airs on Friday, Sept. 12, at 10:35 p.m. (Central).<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Jonas recently flew to New York and taped a segment along with high jumpers Andra Mason and Sharon Day. Although not a featured guest, Jonas said the entire experience was, “very cool.”
According to Jonas, Letterman is a huge fan of high jumping and believes it did not get enough television coverage during the latest Olympic Games in Beijing. Jonas said that Letterman told him, “High jumping is one of the most true athletic events in track and field.”
In his time at Nebraska, Jonas earned eight NCAA All-America honors, one indoor national championship, one outdoor Big 12 championship and held the top high jump in the world this season from May 17 to July 13 with a leap of 7-8 3/4 (2.36).
Following a stellar career at Nebraska, the La Vernia, Texas, native signed a professional contract with Nike and qualified for his first Olympic Games. Currently, Jonas is back in Lincoln training with Nebraska Head Coach and Jumps Coach Gary Pepin, as well as finishing his degree in horticulture.
