Larson, Anderson Earn Big 12 Honors

IRVING, Texas?A pair of Nebraska players were honored Monday afternoon, as outside hitter Jordan Larson was named Big 12 Offensive Player of the Week, while sophomore Sydney Anderson was selected as the conference Rookie of the Week. Both players were instrumental in the Huskers going 2-0 last week, posting wins over No. 18 Kansas State and third-ranked Texas.

Larson earned the league’s offensive honor for the first time in 2008 ? the fourth weekly award of her career ? after averaging 5.00 kills on .319 hitting, 2.62 digs and 0.50 blocks last week. Larson posted two double-doubles, upping her career total to 41. She matched her career best with 21 kills on .372 hitting and 10 digs in a win at Kansas State, snapping the Wildcats’ nine-match win streak. Against Texas on Saturday, she totaled a match-high 19 kills, 11 digs and two blocks to hand UT its first conference loss since last September.

Anderson picked up the rookie award for the third time in four weeks after tallying 12.39 assists per set while averaging 2.50 digs, 0.88 kills and 0.38 service aces in wins over No. 18 Kansas State and No. 3 Texas.  She guided four different players to career bests in kills during the course of the week.  At KSU, she contributed 46 assists, 10 digs and three aces to the Husker effort.  Against Texas, Anderson dished out a season-best 53 assists and added 10 digs.  She helped NU hit .319 as a team against a defense that was holding opponents to a .143 hitting percentage. 

The second-ranked Huskers return to action on Wednesday, Sept. 24, as they take on the Kansas Jayhawks. First serve from the NU Coliseum is set for 7 p.m. The match will be carried on the Husker Sports Network, including B107.3 FM in Lincoln and Twister 93.3 FM in Omaha and on Huskers.com. In addition, the match will be carried state-wide on NET Television and CBS College Sports
