Thank You from the Huskers

As coach of Nebraska volleyball, the two things I am most proud about are the positive impact we can make and the ability to dream big in setting goals. Last Wednesday, we were able to see both goals achieved in their own special way.

Last spring, our players approached me and proposed using a home match for breast cancer awareness. We have had people close to our program touched pretty heavily by breast cancer, and our team wanted to heighten awareness on this issue. To walk onto the Coliseum floor and to see fans embrace the Power of Pink initiative was truly amazing, and is something that our players and fans will not forget.

Our fans were also part of a historic night, as it was the 114th consecutive Coliseum sellout and became the longest sellout streak by an NCAA women’s program. In 2001, our goal was to build a sellout streak similar to Husker football, a source of great pride for our fans. It was an ambitious goal, but over the years the streak gained momentum and has given our fans a stake in our program. Nearly 500,000 fans have been a part of the streak since 2001, making the NU Coliseum a truly magical place to play.

We are fortunate to have the best fans in college volleyball and on behalf of everyone associated with Nebraska volleyball, we wanted to express thanks to our fans across the Husker Nation for their support of not only the Power of Pink, but for being the reason why there is no place like Nebraska.
