Junior right-hander Robin Mackin will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery this month, Head Coach Rhonda Revelle announced on Thursday.<?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
Mackin, a heralded transfer from Fresno State, missed Nebraska’s first nine games with her injury. She made her Husker debut last weekend at the NFCA Leadoff Classic, but was limited to only three at bats and just 2.0 innings pitched. Following her return to action, Mackin decided this week to forgo the rest of the season and have surgery now to allow maximum recovery time for the 2010 season.
A native of Newmarket, Ontario, Mackin is in her first year with the Nebraska program. She spent the 2006 and 2007 seasons at Fresno State, where she was a 2007 third-team NFCA All-American and second-team CoSIDA Academic All-American. Mackin redshirted during the 2008 season while training with Team Canada for the Beijing Olympics, where she made three appearances and pitched 6.1 innings for the Canadians. She will be a senior in 2010.
