Volleyball Team to be Honored on Sunday

Lincoln ? The Nebraska volleyball team will be presented with the 2008 Big 12 trophy prior to Sunday’s baseball series finale between Nebraska and Missouri at Hawks Field, scheduled for 1:05 p.m.

Nebraska Athletic Director Tom Osborne will present the team with their Big 12 Championship trophy, as the Huskers went 31-3 and reached the national semifinals in 2008. It was the fifth consecutive title for the Huskers, who have won or shared 11 of 13 titles since the Big 12 was formed in 1996.

Sunday’s game was chosen as the date of the presentation to allow the 2008 Husker seniors Amanda Gates, Jordan Larson and Rachel Schwartz an opportunity to attend the game and to be formally recognized with the team. Larson and Gates spent most of the spring semester playing volleyball in Puerto Rico and Spain, respectively, and have recently returned following the conclusion of their seasons. It will be the first time the team has been together in a public setting since falling to Penn State, 3-2, in front of an NCAA record crowd of 17,430 at the Qwest Center in Omaha last Dec. 18.

Tickets for Sunday’s game, scheduled for 1:05 p.m., can be purchased on Huskers.com or the Hawks Field Ticket Office beginning at 11:30 a.m. on Sunday.
