Miami ? Behind strong performances from former Huskers Jordan Larson and Nancy Metcalf, the United States Women’s Volleyball National Team earned a berth in the Pan American Cup semifinals with a 25-15, 25-20, 24-26, 25-23 victory over Puerto Rico Tuesday evening in Miami. <?xml:namespace prefix="o" ns="urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office"?>
With the victory, the United States, which is ranked second in the world, wins Pool A with a 5-0 record and will be off until the semifinals on July 3. Puerto Rico (4-1) finished second in Pool A and will play in the quarterfinals on July 2.
Larson continued her impressive debut with Team USA, tying Kristin Richards for team-high honors with 18 points. Larson, who has led Team USA in points in three of her four matches, totaled 15 kills, two service aces and a block against Puerto Rico.
Metcalf, who is returning from shoulder surgery added 17 points, as she tied for match-high honors with four blocks, while adding 13 kills on 31 swings in the victory.
The U.S. will return to action in the semifinals on July 3 at 7 p.m. (central).
