Colorado Springs, Colo. - Senior Anna Caniglia and freshman Jordan Jackson each scored goals for the Husker soccer team on Tuesday, as Nebraska won its lone exhibition game of the 2009 season, 2-0, over Colorado College.
The Huskers and Tigers played three 30-minute periods, with junior goalkeepers Jessica Mills and Tara Macdonald splitting time in net for Nebraska and tallying three saves apiece.
"The team defense was fantastic," assistant coach Wally Crittenden said. "Colorado College is a great team so to shut them out is really good. We were very dynamic, very dangerous in our attacks. All around it was a great way to start the season."
The Huskers controlled the final 60 minutes, outshooting the Tigers, 11-5.
Jackson's game-winning goal came in the 43rd minute off an assist from senior Carly Peetz. Caniglia then found the net at the beginning of the third period (61st minute) on a one-timer assisted by sophomore Molly Thomas.
Nebraska totaled 13 shots overall, while Colorado College had nine, but the teams split the shots on goal battle, 6-6.
Nebraska will now stay in the state of Colorado as it prepares for the season opener. The Huskers take on Northern Colorado in Greeley this Saturday, Aug. 22 at 8 p.m. Nebraska has won the only game against the Bears in school history, shutting out UNC, 7-0, in 2004.
In 15 years with the Huskers, head coach John Walker is 8-5-2 in season-opening matches.
