Huskers Tied for National Scoring Lead

The Nebraska soccer team is tied for the national scoring lead in the latest NCAA statistics released on Monday afternoon.

The Huskers have exploded for 50 goals this season to rank in a tie for first with Louisiana Tech, although NU has a higher scoring average at 3.57 goals per game (1st, Stanford-3.69). Nebraska scored six goals in its last two Big 12 games and has already put up the most goals in a season since 2002.

Included in Nebraska's scoring barrage has been 41 goals at home, where head coach John Walker's squad easily shattered the previous Nebraska Soccer Field season record of 26, which was set in both 2005 and 2006. Nebraska's five goals in its victory against Oklahoma on Sunday were the most in a Big 12 game since a 5-1 win over Iowa State on Sept. 26, 2003.

Two weeks ago, the Huskers scored three goals in the first half at Texas Tech to mark the most first-half goals in a Big 12 game by Nebraska since Oct. 30, 2005 (also at Texas Tech). The Huskers' nine goals in a 9-0 victory over South Dakota on Sept. 18 stands as the best single-game total in the Big 12 Conference this season.

Freshman Morgan Marlborough is the current individual NCAA scoring leader. She turned in her second hat trick of the season against the Sooners on Sunday and is now the freshman single-season school record holder with 19 goals.

Nebraska (8-2-4) is unbeaten at home and faces No. 17 Texas A&M at the Nebraska Soccer Field this Sunday, Oct. 18 at 1 p.m. The Huskers travel to Texas on Friday for a 7 p.m. matchup.
