Auburn, Ala. ? Sophomore right-hander Ashley Hagemann tossed a two-hit shutout and classmate Ashley Guile tied the Nebraska record with four walks, as the Husker softball team cruised to an 8-0 win over Central Michigan to cap a doubleheader sweep of the Chippewas Friday afternoon in Auburn, Ala.
The win was Nebraska's fifth straight and gave Head Coach Rhonda Revelle a victory in her 1,000th game as Nebraska’s coach. The Huskers improved to 5-3 on the season, while Central Michigan fell to 0-2.
Hagemann (1-2) picked up her first win of the season in dominating fashion. She tossed the second seven-inning complete game of her career and struck out 10 while walking only two in her two-hitter. Hagemann did not allow a runner to advance past second base in the game.
Offensively, Guile went 1-for-1 with an RBI single and four walks. Guile, who also walked in each of her three plate appearances in game one, tied Husker volunteer coach Sheena Lawrick and Meghan Mullin for the most walks in a game in Nebraska history. Senior Alex Hupp, junior Heidi Foland and sophomore Nikki Haget all had two hits, as Haget produced a two-hit effort for the fifth straight contest. Guile and Hupp each added two RBIs as well.
The Huskers didn’t score until the fifth, but they had plenty of chances early in the game. Nebraska put its leadoff runner on base in each of the first four innings, but came up empty each time, stranding seven runners through the first four frames.
After going 0-for-10 with runners on base through the first four innings, Nebraska used back-to-back hits to take the lead in the top of the fifth. The Huskers again got their leadoff runner on base when Haget singled. Guile followed with her sixth walk of the doubleheader and a sacrifice from classmate Kirby Wright put runners at second and third with one out. Hupp then came to the plate and fell behind in the count 0-2 before lining a two-run double down the left field line to give the Huskers a 2-0 lead.
Freshman Gabby Banda followed with a one-out single to put runners on first and third. CMU appeared to avoid further damage as new pitcher Sarah Patterson struck out the next two batters. But on strike three to Hagemann, the ball popped out of catcher Rachael Hensel’s glove to allow Hupp to score and extend the inning. Patterson then uncorked a wild pitch to bring Banda home and push the lead to 4-0.
Nebraska added an insurance run in the top of the sixth when junior Heidi Foland reached on an error to begin the inning and scored on a two-out RBI single from Guile.
Foland then picked up an RBI one inning later with a two-out single to ignite a three-run seventh inning. Guile tied the school record and picked up an RBI with a one-out, bases-loaded walk, before Wright picked up a sacrifice fly to push the lead to 8-0.
Central Michigan picked up its first hit of the game when Amanda Patrick reached on a one-out double in the bottom of the fourth, but she did not advance. Molly Coldren then reached on a two-out bunt single in the sixth for the Chippewas’ only other hit.

Nebraska returns to action at the Tiger Invitational on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, before facing host Auburn at 12:30 p.m. Both games can be heard live on Huskers.com.
