Huskers Meet Media at Coliseum

Lincoln - On Wednesday afternoon at the NU Coliseum Nebraska volleyball Head Coach John Cook and the team's four seniors met the media to discuss the upcoming 2010 season.

Coach Cook answered question for nearly one-half hour, before seniors Sydney Anderson, Kayla Banwarth, Lindsey Licht and Tara Mueller took their turns at the podium. The team then posed for its team photo, before heading outside to take a picture with Monte Seldon's Husker semi-truck.

Since January of this year, Coach Cook has been focused on how to reinvent Nebraska volleyball.

"By reinventing, we're kind of looking at everything we've done, what has made us successful, what can we do better," Cook said. "I think one of the cool things about coaching is figuring out your talents and creating a great system for them to thrive in."

Cook went on to discuss how the team's trip to China helped them form bonds that will pay off during the 2010 season.

"I just felt that our team grew together closer more than they imagined or we could have imagined on that trip," Cook said. "That is a tribute to the girls and this team, our leadership and their commitment to each other. I think they really understand what it takes to be a special team."

The Huskers, who return three players that have captured four AVCA All-America honors, will open the 2010 campaign with matches against Kentucky and Florida at the Runza/AVCA Showcase in Omaha at the Qwest Center on Aug. 28-29. Tickets for the Runza/AVCA Showcase are on sale at Ticketmaster.com and at Ticketmaster outlets across the state.

Fans will have their first opportunity to see the Huskers at the Red/White Scrimmage on Saturday, Aug. 21, at 7 p.m. Tickets are still available online at Huskers.com or by calling 1-800-8-BIGRED.
