Huskers Gear Up for Scarlet-Cream Intrasquad Meet

The Husker swimming/diving team takes to the pool this Saturday, Oct. 2, at 10 am, in the Devaney Natatorium for the ninth annual Scarlet-Cream Intrasquad Meet.

Seniors Jess Andrews, Claire Desormey, Julie Giehl, Kelsey Grushecky, Blaine Hoppenrath, Brandie Kavalec, Meredith Matthies and Rachell McClain will be taking part in their final Intrasquad Meet for the Husker squad that returns 26 letterwinners from last season. Newcomers to the team include freshman Morgan Flannigan, Ashleigh Grammar, Shannon Guy, Lexie Halberstadt, Payton Michaud, Bailey Pons, Kristin Strecker and Megan Ziemann.

The Huskers look to continue their improvement as they went 4-3 in duals during the regular season last year, after having a 3-4 record in 2008-09. The Huskers are led by Coach Pablo Morales entering his tenth year with the team.

The Intrasquad Meet All-Time series is 3-3 after the Cream defeated the Scarlet last year on the backs of current senior Julie Giehl and junior diver D'Arcy Schmidt. Each won two events on the day.  

The Intrasquad Meet marks the second time the Huskers have competed this season, following last week's Alumni Meet where the Huskers defeated the Alumni 110-88. The Huskers begin their regular season Saturday, Oct. 9 at Illinois.
