Huskers Claim Event Title, Tally Second-Place Finish

Lincoln, Neb. - The No. 10 Nebraska men's gymnastics team came in second against No .4 Oklahoma and No. 13 University of Illinois-Chicago Sunday afternoon at the Devaney Center. The Huskers posted a score of 349.70, behind OU's 360.60 and ahead of UIC's 332.50.

"It doesn't get much better, that was awesome," Head Coach Chuck Chmelka said. "That was the best I've seen us all year."

The Huskers tabbed one event title on the afternoon with Anthony Ingrelli tying for first on rings. He posted a score of 15.20 on the event, marking a season high score for any NU gymnast on rings in 2011.

 Andreas Hofer tied for second in the all-around standings, scoring an 85.200. Hofer was the only all-arounder for NU on Sunday.

In addition to the first-place finish, Oklahoma took home all seven event titles on the day. The Sooners were lead by Steven Legendre. Legendre won four event titles, including the all-around crown. He earned the highest score by anyone of the afternoon on vault scoring a 16.700.

NU competed in Olympic order starting with floor, where the Huskers were lead by Andreas Hofer as he scored a 15.100. He earned a second-place finish on the event. Will Eastman and Wyatt Aycock both received a 14.70, a career-best for Aycock, Mark Ringle hit a career-high 14.60, and Nebraska totaled an event score of 59.10.

The Huskers moved to pommel horse where Eric Schryver continued to impress and scored a career-high 15.300. Hofer tallied a 14.10, and junior David Jacobs posted a career-high 14.00. Aycock added a 13.70, while NU posted a 57.10 on the event.

Nebraska moved to rings where Ingrelli scored a 15.200 and tied for first-place in the event. Donovan Arndt posted a 14.80 and Hofer hit a 14.30. Schryver contributed a 13.50 as the Huskers tabbed a 57.80 rings total.

The Huskers headed to vault where they posted their highest team score of the day with a 62.70. NU was led by Hofer, who tied a career high by scoring a 15.90. Eastman earned a 15.70, C.J. Schaaf added a career-high 15.600 and Ringle hit a career-high 15.50.

Following the strong performance on vault, Nebraska moved to the parallel bars, where Ringle led the team and hit a career-high 14.100. Schaaf earned a career-high 14.00, while Bear Danley notched a 13.90. Aycock posted a 13.80, giving the Huskers an event score of 55.80.

Nebraska closed the afternoon on high bar, where Danley came in third with a 14.50. Ringle scored a career-best 14.40 and Schryver earned a score of 14.20. Jacobs contributed a 14.10, while NU notched a 57.20 on the event. The Huskers closed the meet in second place (349.70), behind Oklahoma (360.60) and head of UIC (332.50)

The Huskers are back in action next weekend as they travel to Iowa City, Iowa to take on the Hawkeyes on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
