Fresh off their upset of the No. 7 Missouri Tigers, the Nebraska wrestling team returns to action this weekend with a pair of home duals at the NU Coliseum. The No. 14 Huskers will battle the Arizona State Sun Devils on Friday, Feb. 4, at 7 p.m., before opening their conference home schedule against Big 12 rival and No. 5 Oklahoma State on Sunday, Feb. 6 at 1 p.m. Arizona State will enter Friday's dual with a 5-9 overall record, while Oklahoma State currently owns a 10-2-1 mark and will take on Missouri on Friday, before traveling to Lincoln for Sunday's dual.
Nebraska returns to the NU Coliseum after a seven-dual road swing that dates back to Jan. 15 at the Lone Star Duals where they defeated Utah Valley, Stanford and Brown. The Huskers currently sport an 11-4 overall record with a 1-1 mark in Big 12 duals. After dropping a tough dual to No. 11 Oklahoma on Friday, Jan. 28, the Huskers responded two days later in their upset over No. 7 Missouri. Josh Ihnen rallied the Huskers back from a two-point deficit with his 2-1 decision over No. 15 Mike Larson (MU) at 184-pounds. Ihnen was followed by senior Andy Johnson at 197-pounds, who upset No. 10 Brent Haynes to stretch NU's lead to four points and secure the victory. With Johnson's victory, the senior cracked the national rankings at 197-pounds, checking in at No. 14, according to InterMat.
Friday night's dual against Arizona State will be Student Appreciation Night and Parents Night at the NU Coliseum, where the first 100 UNL students who show their "N" card will receive a free adidas Clima-Lite t-shirt. Make sure to show up early as the sizes you receive will be on first-come, first-serve basis. Before the match, the Huskers will be honored with their parents before the start of the dual.
Sunday is Alumni Day at the NU Coliseum as several past members of the Nebraska wrestling program will be honored before the match . Fans who attend Saturday's basketball game between the Huskers and Kansas Jayhawks can use their ticket stub to receive free admission at Sunday's dual by showing it at the door.
Last Time Out: Huskers Upend 7th-Ranked Tigers, 17-16
The No. 16 Nebraska wrestling team picked up its first conference dual victory of the season on Sunday Jan. 30, upsetting the No. 7 Missouri Tigers, 17-16, at the Hearnes Center in Columbia, Mo. Nebraska's victory over Missouri marked its highest victory over a ranked opponent since defeating No. 7 Minnesota, 21-18, on Dec. 21, 2008.
Missouri controlled the dual early capturing three out of the first four matches and taking a 10-3 lead. David Klingsheim (NU) battled No. 9 Alan Waters (MU) at 125-pounds to open the dual, but couldn't pull off the upset falling by decision, 5-3. NU was able to even the score at 3-3 when Ridge Kiley (NU) took down Nathan McCormick (MU), 4-0, at 133-pounds. After a scoreless first period, Kiley was dominant in the final two periods scoring a reversal and a penalty point (locked hands) in route to the victory.
With the score tied, MU regained the lead after scoring victories at 141 and 149-pounds, but NU responded with two wins of their own from Tyler Koehn (NU) and No. 1 Jordan Burroughs (NU). Koehn used two first period takedowns to take control early against Giorgio Gregoris (MU) at 157-pounds and took the match by decision, 9-4. Burroughs defeated his second nationally-ranked opponent of the weekend by taking down No. 11 Zach Toal (MU) by technical fall, 26-11, at 165-pounds.
Burroughs improved his season record to 25-0 and 15-0 in dual competition. The victory also gave him his 10th by technical fall this year.
With a one-point advantage in the team score, the Huskers weren't able to keep a hold of the lead after No. 20 Dorian Henderson (MU) edged Caleb Kolb (NU), 4-2, at 174-pounds. Now trailing by two-points, No. 13 Josh Ihnen (NU) defeated No. 15 Mike Larson in a tight 2-1 battle at 184-pounds to give NU the lead for good. Ihnen used the riding time point to secure the victory after accumulating 1:48 of riding time in the third period.
Andy Johnson (NU) extended the Huskers lead to four points at 197-pounds by upsetting No. 10 Brent Haynes (MU) for his fifth-straight victory. Entering the third period trailing 1-0, Johnson rallied back with two takedowns in the final period to take the match by decision, 5-3. The senior now owns a 22-8 record and an 11-4 mark in dual matches.
Nebraska was able to hold on for the 17-16 victory despite No. 12 Tucker Lane (NU) falling to No. 4 Dom Bradley (MU) by decision, 5-4, at the heavyweight spot.
A Closer Look at the Arizona Sun Devils
Arizona State makes the trek to Lincoln with a 5-9 overall record and a 1-3 mark in Pac 10 duals. The Sun Devils began the season with two-straight victories over Grand Canyon and Embry-Riddle (Ariz.), before falling to Oklahoma, 32-7, for their first loss of the season. The Sun Devils are currently in the midst of a five-dual losing streak, with losses to Air Force, American, Central Oklahoma, CS Bakersfield and Cal Poly. Friday night's match will be the Sun Devils' first true road match of the season and eighth ranked opponent they have faced.
Leading ASU is senior Anthony Robles at 125-pounds. Robles, who is currently the 2nd-ranked wrestler nationally at his weight, carries a 24-0 record into the dual, while 17 of those wins have come by technical fall, which leads the nation.
Also leading the way for ASU is junior Jake Meredith, who owns an 18-11 overall record, and a 9-5 mark in dual competition at 184-pounds.
The head coach for Arizona State is Shawn Charles, who is in his second season as head coach. Charles was an assistant coach for Nebraska from 2001-05. NU assistant coach Bryan Snyder spent last season at ASU before coming to Nebraska.
Husker History vs. Arizona State
The Huskers and Sun Devils have faced off 15 times in their history, with Nebraska holding an advantage in the all-time series at 10-4-1. In their last meeting, the Huskers defeated ASU, 37-(-1), on Jan. 10, 2004, in Hampton, Va.
A Closer Look at the Oklahoma State Cowboys
The No. 5 Oklahoma State Cowboys have defeated an impressive five teams ranked inside the top 25 in route to their 10-2-1 record this season. The Cowboys began the season on a five-dual winning streak with victories over Minnesota, Oklahoma and Arizona State. Their first loss came at the hands of then-No. 12 Virginia Tech on Jan. 8, where they fell in a tight 18-16 battle.
After the loss, OSU recorded wins over Iowa State and Northern Iowa, before losing their second dual of the season to then-No. 13 Missouri. Following their defeat, the Cowboys tied then-No. 10 Iowa, 15-15, before reeling off three straight victories entering this weekend's duals. OSU will take on Missouri, who NU just defeated 17-16, this Friday before taking on the Huskers.
The Cowboys sport one of the deepest lineups in the country with a ranked wrestler in nine out of the 10 weight classes. No. 1 Jordan Oliver leads the way for Oklahoma State at 133-pounds with a perfect 17-0 record on the season. Oliver has recorded five pins and eight technical fall victories this season. The Cowboys will send another undefeated wrestler to the mat in No. 3 Clayton Foster at 197-pounds. Foster has a 15-0 record and has defeated six nationally ranked wrestlers. Other ranked wrestlers for OSU include No. 8 Jon Morrison (125), No. 17 Josh Kindig (141), No. 10 Jamal Parks (149), No. 16 Neil Erisman (157), No. 12 Dallas Bailey (165), No. 17 Mike Benefiel (174) and No. 11 Chris Perry (184).
Oklahoma State is coached by John Smith, who is in his 20th season as head coach of the Cowboys.
Husker History vs. Oklahoma State
The Huskers and Cowboys have met a combined 54 times in their history, while the Cowboys own an advantage in the all-time mark at 49-4-1. The Huskers defeated OSU in 2008, 22-12, and in 2009, 17-16, before falling to the Cowboys last season in Stillwater, 31-6.
Burroughs Looks to Cement Name in Record Books
After becoming the 19th wrestler in program history to reach the 100-win mark earlier this season, Burroughs has his sights set on many of the school's all-time wrestling records as he goes after his second NCAA title.
- Moved past Corey Olsen (1989-93) for No. 6 in the all-time victories chart with 117. He needs six more victories to tie Jason Kelber (1987-91) for fifth all-time.
- Currently sits at No. 6 on the all-time winning percentage chart with a .854 clip and a 117-20-0 career record.
- With his two victories last weekend, he moved into the top 10 career dual wins list at NU. Burroughs is tied at No. 9 with 58 wins.
-Currently at No. 8 in career dual winning percentage at .879.
-Has accumulated 16 falls this season to move his career total to 37. Burroughs would need 8 more victories by technical fall or pin to move into the top 5 career falls list at NU.
Huskers Finish Seven-Dual Road Streak
The Huskers return to the Coliseum after their longest road dual streak of the season, which dated back to Jan. 15 at the Lone Star Duals. NU collected a 5-2 record through their seven road duals, with victories over Utah Valley, Stanford, Brown, Northern Iowa and No. 7 Missouri.
For the season, the Huskers have an 8-3 record while wrestling on the road, and have two more road duals on the schedule when they travel to North Carolina and Duke on Feb. 12.
Johnson Breaks Into National Rankings
Andy Johnson has vaulted himself into the national rankings this week after his win over Keldrick Hall from OU and upset over No. 10 Brent Haynes from Missouri. The senior, who returned this season after sitting out of competition last year, is the 14th-ranked wrestler in the country at 197-pounds according to InterMat, while Amateur Wrestling News has him ranked at No. 12 in their latest polls.
Johnson is currently riding a five-match winning streak, which has helped him improve his season total to 22-8, with an 11-4 record in dual competition.
Other ranked Huskers according to InterMat include No. 1 Jordan Burroughs (165), No. 10 Josh Ihnen (184) and No. 12 Tucker Lane (HWT).
Ihnen Gets Back on Track
After dropping two-straight matches to nationally-ranked opponents, sophomore Josh Ihnen has responded in a big way by taking down two nationally-ranked wrestlers of his own in the past two duals. Against Oklahoma, Ihnen proved to be too much for No. 17 Erich Schmidke, winning by major decision, 8-0. In his next match, Ihnen took down No. 15 Mike Larson of Missouri, 2-1, to give Nebraska a 14-13 lead in their upset over the 7th-ranked Tigers last weekend.
Blackout Scheduled for Iowa State Dual
Make sure to wear all of your black Husker gear to the Huskers' last home dual of the season against the Iowa State Cyclones on Sunday, Feb. 20, as we try to paint the Coliseum black in what will be the last Big 12 dual for Nebraska as the move to the Big Ten next season. The Huskers will be sporting their black singlets as the action will begin at 2 p.m.
Huskers Release 2011 Summer Camp Dates
The Nebraska wrestling program has announced camp dates for the summer of 2011 on the days listed below. Camp information, including dates, costs and an application form, will be available before the end of January.
The Husker staff will host three team camps and three specialized individual camps during the summer of 2011. Wrestlers in attendance will have a chance to learn from and compete with the Husker wrestling staff and team members. Head Coach Mark Manning will provide instruction at each camp as well as numerous guest instructors. Burroughs Brings in Big 12 Awards
Senior Jordan Burroughs is one of two wrestlers in the Big 12 to receive Big 12 Wrestler of the Week honors twice this season. Burroughs was honored on Dec. 13, 2010, and Jan. 3, 2011. Over his career, Burroughs has been named Big 12 Wrestler of the Week four times in his career.
Huskers Announce Talented Signing Class
Head Coach Mark Manning and the Husker wrestling program have announced the signings of four high school seniors who plan to enroll and compete at Nebraska beginning with the 2011-12 season.
Three of the four signees are ranked in the InterMat Top 25, while the other is a two-time Nebraska Class C state champion. Three of the wrestlers have been crowned state champions at their respective high schools.

Austin Wilson, Hastings, Neb. (Hastings St. Cecilia) - 157/165
Austin Wilson will enter his senior season at Hastings St. Cecilia looking to break the all-time career victories record in Nebraska state high school history. Wilson owns a 133-3 career record and would need 39 victories to break the record of 172. As a sophomore, Wilson finished the season with a perfect 47-0 record while only giving up one takedown and one reversal all season en route to the Class C state title at 130 pounds. In his junior season, the Hastings native was just as impressive, going 48-0 and only being scored on one time. Wilson's 48 victories as a junior broke an All-Class record for wins a season. Wilson is nationally-ranked as the No. 15 wrestler in his weight division according to WIN magazine. Wilson is set to wrestle at either the 157 or 165 pounds.
Jake Sueflohn, Hartland, Wis., (Arrowhead) - 141/149
Jake Sueflohn has established himself as one of the best high school wrestlers in the country after winning the 2010 Wisconsin Division I state championship at 135 pounds. Sueflohn, a Harland, Wis. Native, is ranked as the No. 4 wrestler in the nation at the 140-pound weight division and is the No. 23 ranked recruit overall according to InterMat. As a freshman, Sueflohn finished third at the state championships at 119, while recording a 50-4 record. His sophomore season saw him finish in the runner-up spot at the 125-pound weight division going 38-5. Sueflohn owns a 146-12 career record. Sueflhon is slated to wrestle at either 141 or 149 pounds.
Donny Longendyke, White Bear Lake, Minn. (White Bear Lake) - HWT
Donny Longendyke will enter his senior season as one of the most dominate heavyweights in the country after going 47-0 as a junior, while recording 39 pins en route to the Minnesota Class AAA state championship. In his sophomore season, Longendyke recorded a 39-2 mark and a second place finish at the state championships. Longendyke was the No. 2 rated heavyweight recruit in the country according to InterMat, and the No. 25 overall prospect in the country. This summer, Longendyke was most impressive at the USA Wrestling National Championships in Fargo, N.D., where he placed in all five events he entered and earned a spot in the finals twice. Longendyke will wrestle at the Heavyweight spot for the Huskers.
James Green, Willingboro, N.J. (Willingboro) - 157
James Green will join the Husker wrestling program after accumulating over 100 victories in his first three seasons at Willingboro (N.J.) High School. As a junior, Green finished his junior season with a 35-2 record and a second place finish at the state championships. Green is considered one of the top recruits in the country and is ranked as the No. 22 overall prospect by InterMat. The Willingboro, N.J. native is the 2nd-ranked wrestler at the 145-pound weight division by WIN magazine and checks in as the 4th-ranked wrestler in Intermat's individual rankings. Green is projected to be a 157-pound wrestler at Nebraska.
Four-Time All-American Snyder Returns as Assistant Coach
The Nebraska wrestling team announced this offseason the return and addition of one of the most decorated student-athletes in program history, as Bryan Snyder was named an assistant coach for the Huskers Over the summer,
The only four-time All-American and four-time conference champion in school history, Snyder comes back to the Husker wrestling program in its 100th anniversary season. The Easton, Pa., native spent last year as the head assistant coach at Arizona State and helped guide five Sun Devils to the 2010 NCAA Championships in Omaha. Snyder began his coaching experience as an assistant at Harvard in 2002-03, while returning to the Husker wrestling program as a graduate assistant coach for two seasons (2003-04 and 2004-05), as NU went 38-5-1 in duals and finished fifth at the 2004 NCAA Championships.
As a wrestler, Snyder ranks No. 1 on Nebraska's all-time winning percentage chart (.925), compiling a 136-11 record from 1999-2002. He claimed All-America accolades and a Big 12 championship all four years, while finishing as the NCAA runner-up at 157 pounds in 2001 and 2002. He amassed over 30 wins per season three times, including his 43-3 record as a sophomore that stands as the second-best single-season mark in school history. A four-time NWCA All-Academic selection, Snyder was named the 2002 Nebraska Male Student-Athlete of the Year and graduated with a double major in Sociology and Communication Studies.
Brester, Brown Join NU Coaching Staff
Two recent NU All-Americans will add further experience and knowledge to the Husker wrestling coaching staff as Nebraska announced the additions of volunteer assistant Brandon Browne and administrative assistant Craig Brester. Along with coach Bryan Snyder, the three new hires combined to win 87 percent of their matches and earn eight All-America honors during their Husker careers.
Browne will be in his second year with the Huskers after serving as the team's club coach last year. A native of Plattsmouth, Neb., Browne won back-to-back Big 12 championships at 174 pounds in 2008 and 2009.
Brester will be the most recent face on the NU staff and serve the role of administrative assistant. The Howells, Neb., native finished his career this past March with his second-straight NCAA runner-up finish at 197 pounds. Through four years, Brester produced a 109-21 record and ranks with the eight-best winning percentage (.838) in school history.
Hendricks Look Forward to Hendricks Training Complex
The Nebraska wrestling program will be experiencing some major facility improvements in the near future, starting with the addition of the Hendricks Training Complex.
The Hendricks Training Complex, which will provide three full-sized practice mats, new office suites and new areas for both strength and conditioning and athletic medicine at the Bob Devaney Sports Center, is currently under construction. The new practice facility will be open for student-athletes at Nebraska beginning in the 2011-12 season - the same year the Huskers are scheduled to begin competition in the Big Ten Conference.
In addition to the new practice and training facility, the Husker men's and women's basketball teams will move into a new home in 2013-14 with the addition of a new downtown arena. At the same time, the Devaney Center will undergo major renovations to benefit the sports who will remain housed in the facility.
