Nebraska freshman all-arounder Wyatt Aycock was named this week's College Gymnastics Association's Gymnast of the Week along with Air Force Senior, Nash Mills. Aycock is the first Husker this season to win the award, and he is the first Husker since John Robinson in 2010 to receive Gymnast of the Week accolades.
The esteemed panel of voters consisted of all 17 active college varsity coaches, 28 honorary life members, and seven major club program coaches.
Aycock earned this honor by
notching six career highs, including one in the all-around with a 88.60, which is
the highest all-around score of any current Husker. Aycock’s five other career
highs on Saturday were, pommel horse (14.50), rings (14.20), vault (16.00),
parallel bars (15.10), and high bar (14.40). Aycock also earned a 14.40 on
floor. His vault of 16.00 is the highest score by any Husker on any event this
season. Aycock won two event titles on Saturday (parallel bars and all-around).
Aycock and the rest of the Huskers, are back in action next Saturday, April 2 at 5 p.m. for the MPSF Conference Championships in Colorado Springs, Colorado.
