Huskers Return to the Pool for Scarlet and Cream Intrasquad

Meet: Scarlet and Cream Intrasquad
Date : Sept. 30, 2011
Time : 4 p.m.
Location : Devaney Natatorium, Bob Devaney Sports Center

The Nebraska swimming and diving team is making its 2011-12 season debut this Friday, September 30th at the Scarlet and Cream Intrasquad dual. The event will take place at 4 p.m., at the Devaney Natatorium.

The dual will serve as the beginning of the final season for five seniors: Bobbi Balogh, Mailene Leslie, D'Arcy Schmidt, Caroline Shea and Riley Seidel. The event will also mark the start of Nebraska's first season as a part of the Big Ten Conference.

Experienced newcomers to the Huskers include a junior transfer from Arkansas in Katie Davis and a sophomore transfer from UNO, Mary Beth Rye. Both are looking to make immediate impacts, starting at the intrasquad dual. The Huskers also have seven freshmen making their first ever collegiate showing in Taryn Collura, Kelly Dunn, Ciara Jenkins, Rebekah Land, Natalie Morris, Nikolina Sabo and Paige Theilen.

The Scarlet squad owns the overall series lead at 4-3 after last year's dual win. Current sophomore Bailey Pons won three events during the dual one year ago. Current Huskers Ariel Weech, Kristin Strecker, Payton Michaud, Ellan Dufour and Kaitlan Walker all won events at the dual last year.

The Huskers are entering Head Coach Pablo Morales' 11th season with the team, and he owns a 52-35 overall record. The Huskers have made strides forward in each of the last two years under Morales, earning a 6-4 record in 2010-11 and a 4-3 record in 2009-10 after going 3-4 in in 2008-09. Nebraska looks to stay on the upswing during its first year in the Big Ten.

The Huskers' next event is the Alumni Meet on Oct. 8. It will be held at the Devaney Natatorium at 10 a.m.  The Huskers open their season Oct. 22nd against South Dakota State at the Devaney Natatorium.
