Dear Husker Volleyball Supporters,
The Huskers are in the midst a tough conference schedule in 2011 and we wanted to thank you for your support as we have entered our first season in the Big Ten Conference. Nebraska has posted a 6-0 record at the NU Coliseum in 2011 thanks to the outstanding support of our volleyball fans. On Sept. 8 we celebrated our 150th consecutive sellout at the NU Coliseum. It is the longest sellout streak across all NCAA women's athletics and is continuing thanks to your support.
There is a lot of excitement in the air as we continue our conference schedule after two home wins over Penn State and Ohio State last week. With a talented roster we have high hopes for this season and beyond. Our roster features three preseason All-Conference selections in Brooke Delano, Lauren Cook and Hannah Werth.
On Sept. 24 we were fortunate to honor a true Husker legend as we retired Nancy Metcalf's jersey in front of over four thousand fans at the NU Coliseum. Metcalf embodied all that encompasses student athletes at Nebraska. She was just the second three-time AVCA First-Team All-American at Nebraska and played for the United States in the 2004 Olympics. In addition to her athletic accomplishments, she was a three-time CoSIDA Academic All-American and the 2011 Academic All-American of the Year.
Thanks to generous support from boosters like you, our program has been ranked among the nation's elite season after season. Our boosters' contributions are a big part of why we have one of the finest programs in the country. Your support has also helped us move into a new weight room adjacent to the sand volleyball courts, built thanks to a generous donation from David and Carol Alloy (read more here), and will eventually guide us into our permanent home at the Bob Devaney Sports Center.
We value your loyalty, enthusiasm and class and feel a tremendous responsibility to our university and community to be first class in everything we do in the classroom and on the court.
