TULSA, Okla. – The Nebraska men’s tennis team began today’s ITA All-American Championships on a good note with wins in the first rounds of the singles and doubles main draw tournaments.
NU’s Christopher Aumueller won his first match defeating Ohio State’s Nelson Vick, 6-2, 6-3. However, Aumueller was knocked off in the second round by Oklahoma’s Guillermo Alcorta, 4-6, 7-6(3), 3-1 ret.
Like his teammate, Benedikt Lindheim also defeated an Ohio State Buckeye in the first round when he knocked off Peter Kobelt, 7-5, 6-2. In the second round, North Carolina’s Jose Hernandez defeated Lindheim, 7-6 (9), 6-2.
Aumuellerand Lindheim kept their first round win streaks alive when the teamed up as a doubles team and knocked off Baylor’s Marko Krickovic and Roberto Maytin, 8-5. The other Nebraska doubles team playing was Eric Sock and Andre Stenger. Sock and Stenger downed Memphis’ duo of David O’Hare and Joe Salisbury, 9-7.
Both doubles teams advanced to the second round of the main draw tournament, and will play their match on Friday.
