Huskers Expand Talent With Two Preseason Recruits

Lincoln, Neb. - University of Nebraska-Lincoln head coach Chuck Chmelka announced the addition of two all around recruits for the 2014 season. Travis Gollott and Antonio Castro look to add immediate impacts on a handful of events during their freshman campaigns, filling the shoes of departing seniors Wyatt Baier and Gabriel Sanchez.

"We are very excited to get two quality all arounders in Travis and Antonio," said Chmelka. "Both will contribute to our team immediately. They excel in the classroom and are great people."

Travis Gollott

A Pleasanton, Calif., native, Gollott finished eighth in floor exercise in the 16-to-18-year-old division at the 2012 US Visa Championships. He was the only gymnast to qualify for finals in all events at the 2011 Region 1 Finals and claimed the all-around championship as well as four individual event titles (floor, rings, parallel bars and high bar). The 2011 and 2012 Junior National competitor is excited to join the Huskers.

"I am now part of the Cornhusker family and couldn't be happier," said Gollott.

Antonio Castro
Castro joins NU from Pinecrest, Fla., and hopes to make an immediate impact on Nebraska's all around lineup. He was a member of the 2011 Region 8 team, which claimed second place at the 2011 Junior Olympic Nationals. He has competed in the JO Nationals from 2010 to 2012 and was a member of the Florida State team at Region 8 Championships every year since 2009. Castro has received USA Gymnastics Academic All-American honors in 2011 and 2012.
"Antonio will contribute immediately on rings, parallel bars and high bar," Chmelka said.
