Huskers Add Three to 2013-14 Recruiting Class

Lincoln, Neb. - University of Nebraska-Lincoln head coach Pablo Morales recently announced the addition of three recruits for the 2013-14 season. Julia Roller, Erin Oeltjen, and Anna Marie Filipcic will look to contribute in several events in their first year, as they will need to help fill the gap left by ten Huskers who will graduate and depart after the 2012-13 season.

"It's a great start to our recruiting class this season. Obviously, we will continue our recruiting through the spring, but these three establish a great foundation for our recruiting class this year," Morales said.

Julia Roller

A Naperville, Ill., native, Roller finished second in the 200-yard individual medley (2:03.11) and fifth in the 100-yard butterfly (55.77) at the 2012-13 Illinois High School State Championships. Her times in both events would be fast enough to contribute immediately for the Huskers. In fact, her individual medley time is faster than that of any Husker thus far this season. Both Roller and Nebraska are excited about the signing.

"We got up to speed on Julia very quickly," Morales said. "She's very talented and is on a very steep improvement slope right now. She performed very well in the Illinois State Championship meet and can swim different strokes at different distances."

Erin Oeltjen

Erin Oeltjen joins the squad as the two-time defending Nebraska high school state champion in the 100-yard backstroke. The Omaha, Neb., native currently attends Millard West High School which has won four out of the last five Nebraska swimming state championships, including three with current Husker standout Shannon Guy. Oeltjen also won gold in 2011's state championship butterfly, while finishing second in 2012's 200-yard individual medley.

"Erin Oeltjen is one of the top swimmers in Nebraska and is very versatile. She can compete in the sprint freestyle, backstroke (100 and 200), butterfly, and individual medley. Both she and Julia are great students who are not only wonderfully talented individuals, but have very strong character. We're looking forward to adding them to the team," Morales said.

Anna Marie Filipcic

Filipcic comes to NU from Omaha, Neb., out of Omaha Burke High School and hopes to make an immediate impact in the diving well for the Huskers. She finished second in the one-meter dive at the 2011 Nebraska High School State Championships and posted a score of 443.10 that put her eighth on Nebraska's all-time leaderboard. Both Head Diving Coach Natasha Chikina and Coach Morales are excited about what Filipcic brings to the squad.

"Anna is one of the top divers in the state," Morales said. "Natasha thinks very highly of her and ranks her very high in her ability to make an immediate impact on our program on all three diving boards."
