Lincoln— Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub and current bowlers Kristi Mickelson and Liz Kuhlkin addressed the media Monday following their dramatic 2013 NCAA Women’s Bowling National Championship Saturday night in Canton, Mich.
Straub noted that a number of current Husker coaches, student-athletes and staff have congratulated him and the team on their performance Saturday night.
“There is no place like Nebraska; it’s so special around here.” Straub said, “Our players, assistant coach Paul Klempa and mysel are treated without regard with what sport we play, it’s something where it is one big happy family that we are happy to be a part of.”
Current NU bowlers Mickelson and Kuhlkin also met with the media at the press conference, most notably trying to hold back emotion talking about the recent national championship victory.
“It’s really surreal, I have been dreaming about this my whole life.” Kuhlkin said, “It feels unbelievable, all the hard work we put in—six days a week—three hours a day, it’s just really surreal for all of us right now.”
Mickelson agreed with what Kuhlkin had to say, adding “All year I have been dreading the end; I am not ready to leave. Nebraska is my home, I’ve been here for five years and I don’t know what I am going to do without these girls.” Mickelson said.
