Destin McCauley signed his letter of intent to join the Nebraska wrestling team for the 2013-14 season, the Huskers announced on Wednesday.
“We're excited for Destin and the future he has here at Nebraska,” Head Coach Mark Manning said. “He comes to us as a very accomplished high school wrestler as well as international (freestyle) competitor. We have a number of young men in our program that have high aspirations, and Destin wants to make history here at Nebraska.”
McCauley, who is projected to wrestle at 149 pounds, captured six state titles at Apple Valley High School in Minnesota and spent the last two years at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Colo. He was a Junior World Team member in addition to winning the Junior National Freestyle title. At the 2012 FILA Junior Nationals, McCauley defeated five opponents including two-time All-American Hunter Stieber of Ohio State in the championship match at 66 kg.
McCauley joins Anthony Abidin, Colton McCrystal and Pat Downey, all of whom signed in the fall, as part of the 2013-14 Nebraska wrestling recruiting class.
