Perdue, Chamberlain Add All-America Honors

State College, Pa. - Nebraska freshman Sam Chamberlain and sophomore Grant Perdue became Nebraska's 49th and 50th All-Americans in men's gymnastics since 1975, both finishing within the top four at individual event finals at the NCAA Men's Gymnastics Championships.

The two individual honors kicked up the program's 2013 All-American total to three, with junior Wyatt Aycock taking home honors in the all-around on Saturday night. 

Perdue's honor on vault makes him the first Nebraska gymnast to earn All-American two consecutive years since 1999 (Jim Koziol) and NU's first All-American on vault since 2005 (Stephen Tétraul).

Chamberlain earned NU's first All-American honors on parallel bars since 2003 (Steven Friedman) and was the second consecutive freshman to earn the award for Nebraska. The Franklin, Ohio, native also marked the Huskers' 50th All-American since 1975.

The night's competition was split into two sections. Floor exercise, still rings and pommel horse were compiled into the first section, followed by vault, parallel bars and high bar. Perdue was scheduled to compete second of the ten competitors on vault and Chamberlain was scheduled seventh on parallel bars.

Perdue saw little immediate pressure on vault, as No. 2 Stacey Ervin fell, giving him a 13.775. The sophomore completed his vault with a hop on his landing, earning him a score of 15.175. By the end of the night, Pedue finished fourth overall. The Houston, Texas, native's award gives head coach Chuck Chmelka his fourth All-American since taking control of Nebraska's program in 2010.

Chamberlain, on the other hand, saw big scores on the board before his routine. Michigan's Sam Mikulak and Syque Caesar has already posted scores above 15.40 on the event. The freshman handled the pressure, though, earning a 14.925. That score placed him in third, where he remained the rest of the meet. Along with being Chmelka's fifth All-American as head coach, Chamberlain also marked the 50th All-American for the Nebraska men's gymnastics program since 1975.

The Huskers finished the season with an eleventh-place performance at the NCAA Championships, posting a team score of 417.550 on Friday afternoon in College Station. Junior Wyatt Aycock qualified for the all-around finals, where he took eighth and the first All-American honors of the trip. Perdue and Chamberlain were the only two Huskers to qualify for individual event finals at the NCAAs after six NU competitors qualified for the event semifinals on Saturday evening.
