Lincoln - Nebraska wrestler Josh Ihnen captured first-team Capital One Academic All-America honors when the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA) announced its men's and women's at-large teams Thursday, June 6.
Ihnen, an All-American on the mat for Coach Mark Manning's wrestling team in 2012, became the 70th two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American across all sports for the Huskers.
The senior from Sheldon, Iowa, was a four-time NCAA qualifier for the Huskers, including an eighth-place finish at 184 pounds as a junior 2012. He finished his senior year with a 27-8 record and fell just one match shy of claiming All-America honors for the second straight year. He became the 21st wrestler in Husker history to amass 100 career victories.
Ihnen was a two-time academic All-Big Ten selection as a finance major, and he earned his bachelor's degree in December of 2011. He competed as a graduate student for the Huskers in both 2011-12 and 2012-13. He was a three-time NWCA All-Academic selection, while his 3.87 GPA helped Nebraska post the second-highest wrestling team GPA in the nation (3.32) by the NWCA in 2012-13. The Huskers were honored as the NWCA's No. 1 GPA team in 2011-12.
Ihnen earned the fourth CoSIDA Academic All-America award in the last three years for the Husker wrestling program, after Tucker Lane claimed back-to-back awards in 2011 and 2012. Ihnen is the fourth two-time CoSIDA Academic All-American in Nebraska wrestling history, as the program has produced eight awards since 1997.
Ihnen helped pushed Nebraska's nation-leading total across all sports to 304.
