Lincoln, Neb. – The No. 8 Nebraska volleyball team (13-3, 6-1) swept the Indiana Hoosiers 3-0 (25-15, 25-16, 25-16) on Friday night at the Bob Devaney Sports Center. With the victory, Nebraska head coach John Cook earned his 400th win at Nebraska.
Kadie Rolfzen and Kelsey Robinson led the way for the Huskers, each recording 11 kills. Rolfzen posted a hitting percentage of .364, while Robinson hit at a clip of .333. Cecilia Hall tallied a career-high-tying eight kills on 15 swings for a hitting percentage of .467. She also led Nebraska at the net with five blocks. Mary Pollmiller handed out 34 assists and Justine Wong-Orantes notched 15 digs.
Nebraska hit .360 for the match and held Indiana to a .072 hitting clip. The Huskers out-blocked the Hoosiers 9-5 and both teams tallied 41 team digs.
The Nebraska block came on strong early in the first set as Pollmiller and Hall teamed up for a stuff to make it 7-4, Huskers. Amber Rolfzen gave the Huskers a 15-10 lead with a kill, while Robinson punctuated a 6-0 NU run with a kill to make it 22-13, Nebraska. The Huskers held on to win the first set 25-15.
Kadie Rolfzen, Hall, Meghan Haggerty and Robinson all had two kills in the first set. Nebraska totaled six team blocks, five of which came from Hall, while Indiana had just two. The Huskers hit .208 in the set and the Hoosiers were held to a -.071 hitting clip.
The Huskers opened the second set on a 4-0 run, taking an 8-4 lead on a kill from Robinson. The Hoosiers tied the set at 11-11, but Pollmiller came through with a kill to give Nebraska a 17-13 advantage. Kadie Rolfzen put NU up 22-16; as the Huskers went on to win the second set 25-16.
Robinson led the way in the second set with four kills, while Amber Rolfzen, Hall and Haggerty all had three kills. Pollmiller dished out 11 assists in the set, helping Nebraska to a .342 hitting percentage. Indiana hit .056 for the set.
Two early kills from Hall made it 6-2, Huskers, in the third set. Robinson put NU ahead 13-7, while a kill from Haggerty made it 19-12, Nebraska. Robinson came through with three consecutive kills to make it 22-14, Huskers. NU won the third set 25-16 to seal the 3-0 sweep.
Kadie Rolfzen tallied seven kills in the third set, while Robinson had five. Pollmiller handed out 15 assists as Nebraska hit .474 for the set. The Huskers out-dug the Hoosiers 17-16 and kept Indiana at a hitting percentage of .212.
Nebraska returns to action tomorrow evening as the Huskers host the No. 25 Purdue Boilermakers at the Devaney Center. The match will air on NET in Nebraska and will be streamed on the Big Ten Digital Network.
