Huskers Sign Top Bowling Recruit

Lincoln, Neb.- The Nebraska bowling team announced Wednesday the signing of Julia Bond, a native of Aurora, Ill. Bond will bring a championship background at the national level to the Husker bowling team in 2014-15.

Bond is regarded as the top high school bowling prospect in the country, and Nebraska Head Coach Bill Straub said Bond will be a strong addition to a Husker program that is coming off an NCAA Championship in 2013.

“Julia is an excellent student and outstanding addition to our program,” Straub said. “To be able to add a player of her caliber that is ranked as the top junior in the country will strengthen our program in the years to come. Julia should fit into our program very well.”

At the 2013 North Pointe Junior Gold Championships in Sterling Heights, Mich., Bond defeated Sarah Locker of New Baltimore, Mich., 386-339 to capture the U20 Girls Division title, earning a spot on the Junior Team USA bowling team.

Bond will start competing with Junior Team USA in 2014, joining current Nebraska bowler and reigning NTCA First Team All-American Liz Kuhlkin.

Bond is not only an individual standout on the lanes. She recently led Waubonsie Valley High School to a 45-3 record, winning the Illinois State High School Bowling Championship. Bond finished fourth individually at the state championship, while capturing all-academic, all-conference and all-state honors.
