Lincoln - The awards continued to pour in for the Nebraska soccer team as four Huskers appeared on the NSCAA/Continental Tire NCAA Division I Women's All-Great Lakes Region lists. Seniors Emma Stevens and Ari Romero earned First Team honors, while fellow senior Jordan Jackson and freshman Jaycie Johnson claimed Second Team designation.
Stevens, a four-year starter in net for NU and All-Big Ten Second Team selection, notched 19 victories with five shutouts working over 2,000 minutes en route to a 1.08 goal-against average her senior season. The Corona, Calif. native finished her collegiate career as the all-time leader in saves at Nebraska with 271 stops and became the first Husker goalkeeper to score a goal in the Big Ten title-clinching victory over Indiana.
Romero helped guide the Nebraska defense to eight shutouts as the senior consistently denied defenders quality scoring chances. The 2013 Big Ten Defender of the Year and Defender of the Big Ten Tournament displayed top-class stamina as she worked every second of the final 15 matches of her NU career. Aside from playing with the Mexican National Teams the past two seasons, the Surprise, Ariz. native started all 77 career matches as a member of the Scarlet and Cream.
The 2013 Big Ten Midfielder of the Year, Jackson excelled during her final season at Nebraska with 30 points on nine goals and a conference-best 12 assists, which ranks 10th nationally. Jackson became the eighth NU player to reach the 100-point plateau and concludes her Husker career ranking in the Top 10 in four offensive categories. Jackson's senior year was highlighted by her fifth-career, five-point performance in a 4-0 shutout on Oct. 11 at Purdue.
Johnson, the Winnebago, Mo. native, came to Lincoln and made an immediate contribution to the Nebraska offense with a pair of scores in her debut match as the forward led NU with 17 tallies, tied for 13th in the country and third amongst freshman. On Nov. 15, Johnson recorded four goals in the NCAA First Round to become the first freshman and fifth player in NCAA Tournament history to accomplish the feat. Johnson earned a number of awards including All-Big Ten Second and Freshman Team honors, while also being named 2013 Big Ten Offensive Player of the Tournament.
The 2013 Huskers locked up both the regular-season and tournament titles for the fourth time in school history and for the first time since 2000. Head Coach John Walker was named All-Region Coach of the Year on Tuesday.
