The NTCA (National Tenpin Coaches Association) No.6 rated Nebraska women’s bowling team is back in action this weekend at the Prairie View A&M Invitational held in Arlington, Texas. The 12-team three-day competition begins Friday afternoon at 12:20 p.m. and will conclude Sunday starting at 8:30 a.m.
Once again the Huskers will face stiff competition at the tournament, as NU will faceoff with seven of the top 10 teams in the latest NTCA Poll. Interim Head Coach Paul Klempa believes the team has been extremely focused during its week off of competition leading up to the PVAMU Inv.
“The tournament field is really good, it is as tough as the last tournament we went to,” Klempa said. “We have spent the last few practices trying to shore up some of the issues we had, also we needed to continue with our development. We are pretty well prepared for this next event, I think we are more prepared now than we were coming out of Christmas break.”
Last year the Huskers placed took the overall Prairie View A&M crown despite posting some of the lowest scores during their National Championship season. Klempa noted that the lanes at times can be quite sluggish, so he is expecting for another low scoring bout.
“The playing conditions down there last year were not the best, the lanes are really low scoring so if playing condition are similar to last year, scores will be low and we will have to rely on getting spares,” Klempa said. “Shot making will be at a premium and will be more of a grind then the last tournament.”
The Huskers will begin competition Friday afternoon at 12:20 p.m. with five-total four-game baker matches. On Saturday NU will compete at 9:40 a.m. with five team traditional games, to determine individual standings. The Prairie View A&M Invitational will conclude Sunday morning with three Baker game sets (Best four of seven) format.
